No security concerns for Victory Day celebrations, says Advisor Jahangir

The home advisor says the law and order situation in Bangladesh is stable

Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has downplayed security concerns surrounding Victory Day on Dec 16 and assured that the law and order situation in Bangladesh is stable.

Speaking to reporters on Monday after a security briefing at the home ministry, Jahangir emphasized that preparations are in place for a smooth celebration of Victory Day.

“The purpose of today’s meeting was to ensure that we can celebrate Victory Day without any disruptions. We aren't anticipating any issues with law and order on Dec 16. Traffic management is always a concern. Traffic police will work to minimize congestion on the roads for those visiting the National Memorial,” the advisor said.

In response to questions about potential security risks from the Awami League or any other groups on Dec 16, Jahangir said, “There are no specific security threats for Victory Day. This day belongs to everyone. The law and order situation in the country is normal.”

He also emphasized the need to maintain uniformity in the colors of the national flags that will be hoisted across the nation on Dec 16. “It has been observed that national flags of different hues are raised in different places. This time, we will ensure that the same colored flags are displayed uniformly at all locations.”
